I received this book from Panda & Boodle in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Dylan Maxwell is a busy man. His no-nonsense approach to life and business keeps him balanced—and alone. His life is bland—devoid of any kind of sweetness or light.
An unexpected business trip close to Christmas, however, brings three people into his life he never expected.
An oversharing teenager.
A lisping little angel.
A sexy, unassuming woman unlike any he has ever met. Her bossy attitude challenges him, while her green eyes melt the frost around his heart.
They draw out something in him that he has never experienced.
Feelings.
Are they the Christmas miracles he needs—or will he walk away from the sweetest gift he has ever been offered?
Swoonie-swoon… It’s almost that time of the year again… Christmas! And what is a Christmas without sweet and funny romantic short stories. Sweet and romantic because that’s what we love, short because we don’t have much time to read with all the Christmas Chaos (family, presents, dinners, and all the mayhem that goes with it). Christmas Sugar is just how I love my Christmas novellas; it’s adorable with a swoon-worthy couple.
“I like it better when you’re smiling. Especially at me. You have a beautiful smile.” Her eyes widened, her breathing picked up. “Dylan, you can’t… You shouldn’t…”
Dylan and Alex are both hard-working people, but that’s where the similarity stops. He is a business tycoon always looking for the next deal or take-over, she runs a small, family hotel. Dylan has a structured life, without personal attachments (besides his mother-like PA), Alex’s life is filled with taking care of her kids and friends. Dylan and Alex have a complete opposite view of life and love, but when they meet, they can’t deny the spark between them.
“What had I done? One moment, we were arguing and the next… Kissing! I ran a hand through my hair. What the hell was I thinking, kissing a total stranger? Except—she didn’t feel like a stranger.”
Alex and Dylan are both very likeable people. Dylan seems like the cold business man, but you sense he wants something different, something more. And in Alex, he just finds that. That little bit of extra, that makes you really look at a person and makes you dream of the future. Alex may doesn’t have much, but she has the love of her kids. She’s a small-town girl through and through who doesn’t want to live in the big city. Alex and Dylan are a swoon-worthy couple, and you know from the get-go they’ll end up together.
Christmas Sugar might be a short novella, but it feels as a full-length book. Dylan and Alex are real like people with previous lives who fall for each other. Given the length of the book the story is just about our couple, without extra storylines or extra drama-for-the-sake-of-drama. Just two grown-up people who want to build a life together after having fallen deeply in love with each other. Is it all realistic? Uh, not really… But that’s not what this is story is about. It’s about love, family and Christmas. And for that Christmas Sugar is perfect; it’s cute and swoon worthy.
“I captured her mouth with mine, kissing her deeply. I could taste her sweetness. Feel her love. She was the very best kind of sugar.”
