I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Rory Haven and Brittany Manion knew one another as children...

...but it's been a long time since their childhood summers at Summerhaven.

The Havens weren't the children who attended exclusive Summerhaven Camp in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire. They were the children of the owners, expected to “pull their weight” and absolutely forbidden to fraternize with the paying guests. But that didn't keep Rory from having a quiet, unrequited crush on gorgeous, popular, insanely-rich, Brittany Manion for three tortuous summers.

When all-grown-up, recently-engaged Brittany books the off-season summer camp for her upcoming spring wedding, she immediately recognizes Rory as the scorching-hot boy who wouldn’t give her the time of day. Meanwhile, Rory, who senses that Brittany’s nuptials are less about Mr. Right and more about Mr. Right Now, launches the fight of his life to win the heart of the girl he’s always wanted.

What do summer camps and unrequited teenage crushes have to do with each other? Most of the time it is what it is, but in Fighting Irish, Rory and Brittany get a second chance. They’re both adults now and know what they want from their lives. I’ve enjoyed reading this sweet story.

“She was, hands down, the loveliest woman he’d ever seen, then as now… …and so far out of his league now, as then, that moving beyond admiration didn’t even occur to him.

Brittany had everything while growing up. Well, from a materialistic point of view she had everything. What she didn’t have was the thing she wanted most; a loving family. With one failed marriage under her belt, she’s determined to make it work with her fiancé, to finally get her own family. Organizing her wedding at the place of her happy teenage summers is a logical choice for her, but seeing Rory again is unsuspected.

Rory is the son of hard working parents, who lived with his siblings his whole life in and around the family summer camp. He had big plans for his future, but circumstances beyond his control made him do the right thing; take over Summerhaven Camp. He’s content with his live for now, but he wants more. Meeting Brittany again brings back fond memories, and he can’t help his feelings for her.

“Her body had reacted when he’d reached for her, hyperaware of where he touched her—her breath stolen by the sweet and simple intimacy of it. It left her, inexplicably, longing for more.”

Fighting Irish is the first book in the ‘Summerhaven Trio Series’ and tells the story of Rory and Brittany. Like other books by Katy Regnery, Fighting Irish is a sweet story with very likable characters and a relatable storyline. Since it’s book one in the series also characters for the next books are introduced, and I’m curious for their stories.

Oh, oh Brittany, I feel so sorry for her. She’s a rich woman who has a clear picture for her future, but somehow, she’s not lucky in the love-lottery. And she doesn’t even have a crazy wish-list when it comes to her perfect guy, all she wants is to be loved and to have children. Rory has a few issues to deal with, but he’s a great guy. I love Brittany and Rory together, they give each other what they need.

“It would kill me to lose you.” “You won’t,” she said, letting him pull her into his arms. “I’m yours.” “And I’m yours.”
