Two mechanics. One rivalry.
She’ll prove she’s as good as she says she is.
He’ll prove her place isn’t under the hood
it‘s over it…

For twenty-six years, I lived by my daddy’s motto: Don’t let the bastards get you down. The foreclosure of our forty-year-old business wasn’t a surprise, but it is when the twenty-nine-year-old buyer advertises for a new mechanic on my Facebook feed. Which is why I reply.

Dex Ryne doesn’t believe in me. He’s a firm believer that I’d look better bent over the hood of a car and working under it…That I’d be prettier sitting on reception.

I’d rather pledge my soul to Satan than work for him, but here I am, ready to prove the cocky, sexy bastard wrong.

Dex Ryne is days away from learning a lesson—one he’ll never wish he’d ever turned the wrench upon.

What do you do when your father has to close his garage, but cars and engines are all you ever wanted? You apply for the mechanic job at said garage, and drive the new owner nuts… Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart is a sweet, funny story; two very likeable characters who dance around each other, pushing the other one’s buttons to the max. I love the story of Jamie and Dex, it put a big smile on my face.

“I kinda wanted to know if Real Dex kissed better than Dream Dex. And that was a high bar to beat… I smacked myself in the forehead. What was wrong with me?”

Jamie has been around cars her whole life, and she can’t imagine not working on them. She’s good at her job, but for some reason outsiders find it weird to hand over their car keys to a woman. Dex is new in town, and in charge of the garage that used to belong to Jamie’s dad. When she applies for the mechanic job, he doesn’t want to hire her, but does agree on a trail period. Jamie and Dex are both stubborn, strong-headed and not afraid to speak their minds. And the attraction between them? Off the charts…

“I don’t eat my words.” She straightened. “I eat the souls of sexist asses like you.” “Careful.” My lips twitched. “As of right now, I’m your boss.” She stared at me, a flat, hard stare that would have made a lesser man shiver.”

Like other books I’ve read by Emma Hart, Miss Mechanic is a light story; no angst or damaged characters, but lots of funny banter and a leading couple you just have to like. The story is written in a double POV, so you get to read Jamie and Dex’s funny (and inappropriate) inner dialogues and thoughts. I think some people will find the things Jamie and Dex say to each other a bit much, but between them it works.

I love Jamie and Dex together. The minute they see each other the attraction is there, but for obvious reasons they try to fight it. Falling in love is one thing, but the couple also has to work together in the same garage. And with two so similar people (it takes an asshole to know an asshole as Jamie says it herself), it can be a bit explosive…

“The way you…feel about me?” I swallowed, leaning back. “Which is…what?” “I…” He hesitated before he ran his fingers through my hair. “I want you, Jamie. Every way I can have you. I don’t know how else to say it.”

I’ve enjoyed reading Miss Mechanic, I give it 4 stars.
