I received this book from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
New Orleans belongs to me.
You don’t know my name, but I control everything you see—and all the things you don’t.
My reach knows no bounds, and my demands are always met.
I didn’t need to loan money to a failing family distillery, but it amuses me to have them in my debt.
To have her in my debt.
She doesn’t know she caught my attention.
She should’ve been more careful.
I’m going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her.
It’s time to collect what I’m owed.
Keira Kilgore, you’re now the property of Lachlan Mount.*Ruthless King is book one of the Mount Trilogy*
I always enjoy a Meghan March book; a great heroine, a hero with some controlling issues and a story you want to know more about. With Ruthless King the author takes everything a bit further, especially in the hero department. I can’t wait for the next installment, I need to know what happens next with Keira and Lachlan.
“She may have marked me tonight, but I marked her first. Keira Kilgore needs another lesson in what it means to be owned by Lachlan Mount.”
Keira is the proud owner of her family’s whiskey distillery in New Orleans. She loves her work, the tradition and the knowledge she’s keeping the distillery running. But now she seems to have a debt with Lachlan Mount, the elusive dark king of New Orleans. She hasn’t asked for the debt and doesn’t know anything about it. But, according to the ruthless Mount, it’s her debt to pay and he has his own plans for a repayment.
“There’s something I might be willing to take in trade.” It takes everything I have to keep my voice steady as my heart threatens to burst from my chest. “What?” He stops a foot from me, and his full lips form a single word. “You.”
Ruthless King is the first book in the ‘Mount Trilogy’ and sets up the story of Keira Kilgore and Lachlan Mount. For the most part the story is told from Keira’s POV, this leaves Lachlan an unknown factor. The few insides we get from the man, are painting a portrait of a ruthless man (hench the book title) who walks on both sides of the law. Ruthless King is a fast-paced story, written in the normal Meghan March style, I’ve enjoyed it very much.
I feel sorry for Keira, but I also admire her for her feistiness. She’s a hard-working young woman who always thinks things through, but one mistake, one misjudgment of character places her in the path of Lachlan. She knows she can’t escape the man, but she won’t go down without a fight. I love her rebellions. Since most of the story is told from Keira’s POV, Lachlan remains a mystery; more asshole then alpha for now. I hope we get to see more of Lachlan in the next books, more of his human side and more of his reasons.
“Nothing is what it seems. Or maybe everything is exactly as it seems. Mount is the villain here. He manipulated me, and I fell under his spell. End of story.”
I’ve enjoyed reading Ruthless King, I give the first part of the ‘Mount Trilogy’ 4 stars.
