I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
The first sexy, captivating, stand-alone novel in the brand-new Fight For Me series from NYT & USA Today Bestselling Author A.L. Jackson . . .
Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.
The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he’ll let into his heart is his little girl.
Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.
She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was seventeen. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.
When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he’s in trouble.
She’s gorgeous and sweet and everything he can’t trust.
Until she becomes the one thing he can’t resist.
One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.
But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.
Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance . . .
When it comes to beautiful written stories full of emotions and realistic characters, A.L. Jackson is my go-to author. I love her writing; the voices she gives her heroes and heroines, and the way she describes the feelings. Show Me the Way is the first book in the author’s brand new ‘Fight for Me Series’, and tells the story of Rynna and Rex. I simply love it.
“My gramma had always told me that life was just one long string of possibilities. That chances were worth taking. And this man and his baby girl? They were worth every single one.”
It has been years since Rynna has been in Gingham Lakes; she left it at 17 and never looked back. The death of her beloved grandmother leads her back, and now she’s willing to give the small town another chance, to start over. Rex is a busy, bitter man. His wife has left him, leaving him alone with their daughter and a business in ruins. Rex doing much better now, but he’s still fighting his demons. Rynna and Rex are in no shape for a relationship of any kind, but they can’t stay away from each other.
“Rex.” His name was a tremor. A plea. He leaned down and kissed me. He kissed me carefully. Gently. Tenderly.”
As already said, Show Me the Way is the first book in the new ‘Fight for Me Series’. Although I was sad the ‘Bleeding Stars Series’ came to an end, I’m very excited about this new series; new characters, new surroundings, new everything. Luckily the writing stays the same, it’s as beautiful as ever. The story is told from both Rex’s and Rynna’s POV, I love their inner voices. They are both damaged by their past, and both deserve so much more.
My heart broke for Rynna. Being a teenage girl is hard enough as it is, but unfortunately Rynna had the worst luck. I wanted to give her a big hug, and yell at the adults; didn’t they see what was going on? And then we have Rex. Poor, poor guy. Yes, he’s a grumpy man with bad manners, but he has every reason. His past has taught him some hard life lessons, lessons you don’t forget easily. I wanted to smack him for his behavior towards Rynna, but I also cheered for them. There was something between the couple, and both deserve a beautiful life with each other, and Rex’s adorable daughter Frankie.
“I’d been terrified of falling in love. Of losing someone else. Knowing there was no place inside me left to lose. Those vacancies went too deep. But Rynna. She filled them. Saved my world and gave me back my heart. Rynna. Fucking Rynna. Little Thief.”
I love Show Me the Way, I give it 5 stars.
