I received this book from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
What if Alice didn’t fall down the rabbit hole, but instead, traveled through Lincoln Tunnel into another kind of Wonderland: New York City?
Alice Leighton may have stopped chasing rabbits a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean she’s not up for some grown up adventures.
What’s not part of her Alice 2.0 plan: losing her head – and heart – to the rugged and enigmatic Dare Grangeworth. Women go mad over him, but not Alice. No way. She may be curious, but she’s not stupid.
Now the man used to being pursued is the one doing the chasing. He has to get to know this girl, even if it means allowing himself to be the subject of her research.
Before too long, everything between them feels larger than life and upside down, like a heady rush, but is it enough to keep Alice by his side in Wonderland?
A good blurb and a nice cover are enough for me to give a new-for-me author a try. The Wonder of You is my first read by Harper Kincaid and tells the story of Alice and Dare. Some parts I loved, other parts I liked and a few didn’t work for me personally. But overall it was an entertaining read, the other books by this author are now on my to-read list.
“I was intrigued. Her words were running through my damn mind on a continuous loop. Fuck, why didn’t I get her name?”
Alice is a Southern belle, who moves to New York City to finish her degree. And not just a degree, a clinical psych degree, specializing in human sexuality studies. For a woman with a little experience this might seem an ought choice, but she really likes it and she’s determined to finish school. Meeting a cocky artist is not what she wants, but when Alice needs help, she hesitantly asks Dare for help.
Dare is a renowned artist who loves his life. Being raised by a single mom he’s a kind of a different breed, not the typical rich womanizer, but he treats women like they should be treated. When he sees Alice, he’s smitten by her and does whatever it takes to keep seeing her. Even if it means agreeing with a doomed-to-fail plan.
“What dare? What are you talking about?” “No, I mean my name is Dare.” “Dare? Your name is Dare? What the heck, did you parents lose a bet or something?”
The Wonder of You is the first book in the new ‘A Different Kind of Wonderland Series’ and tells the story of Alice and Dare. Is a fast-paced, sweet story with its funny and hot moments, told from a dual POV. I like the writing, and Alice and Dare are very likeable characters, I love them as a couple. However, what did bother me a bit was the last part of the book. After our lovebirds hit a rough spot one of them does what I do not like (run) and everything comes back together in the last pages of the story. I think I wanted a bit more for Alice and Dare.
“He was standing in the rain. And he was waiting for me. I didn’t care about anything else except getting to him. I dropped the umbrella and ran as fast as I could. He opened his arms wide and I fell into them.”
